Our Story

Over 40 years ago, we moved to Shimamoto-cho upstream from the Minase river and are surrounded by rich nature. Every year we love this area more and more. A gentle breeze runs through our town. We enjoy a relaxing country life and yet it is convenient to be so close to the cities of Osaka and Kyoto.

I began learning about food working at a major supermarket. For many years, I accumulated knowledge that there are so many delicious foods in our world. I have come to realize that the general public does not realize how many wonderful foods we have in our world.

“I want everyone to know.” I am so happy to have finally opened a restaurant which was created from a beautifully restored room in my house. We use only the finest ingredients and serve dishes that enhance the flavors of our food.

We are so blessed with nature that Shimamoto-cho, is also known as the “Yamazaki Ghibli”. Visiting us it is like walking through a real-life Miyazaki movie!
We are famous for amago and rainbow trout fishing spots in the Minase River. Every morning, fresh river fish are charcoal-grilled on an Irori hearth and are so popular with our customers.

It is no exaggeration to say that the natural mountain streams behind the Suntory Yamazaki distillery helped create the Irori no Sato restaurant. We hope you can relax in our quiet country town and enjoy dishes made with our carefully selected natural ingredients. Please include a visit to our restaurant along with your visits to the Suntory Whiskey Factory, Kyoto sightseeing and the Universal Studios park in Osaka.
